Fell & Sell Altar Builds Guide

Build around the altar. Win around the dungeon.

Altar Builds

The altar system is Fell & Sell is most distinctive strategic layer. Rather than committing to a fixed build before each run, experienced players adapt their build mid-run based on which altar they find. This guide covers how to build around each altar effect for maximum power.

Midas Touch build

The Midas Touch altar inverts the normal dungeon priorities. Instead of fighting for the best equipment, you prioritize heavy items — weapons, heavy armor, large material stacks — and convert them to pure gold.

Gear: No specific gear is needed since you will be selling everything you find. Wear whatever keeps you alive long enough to loot the floor.

Playstyle: Avoid unnecessary combat. Grab heavy items and move. Skip light items unless they are exceptionally valuable. Focus on volume of items rather than quality.

Strengths: Extremely high gold per run if the floor has heavy loot. Low risk since you are not engaging tough enemies.

Weaknesses: No combat power increase. If the floor is light on heavy items, the altar is wasted.

Tiny Size build

The Tiny Size altar rewards fast, evasive play. Your reduced hitbox makes you harder to hit, and increased movement speed lets you reposition faster.

Gear: Daggers are ideal — their fast attack speed compensates for your slightly reduced damage output. Light armor maximizes the mobility advantage.

Playstyle: Circle strafe aggressively. Use your mobility to stay behind enemies. The Tiny altar makes even normally dangerous encounters manageable through pure evasion.

Strengths: Exceptional survivability. Ability to access normally blocked paths.

Weaknesses: Slightly reduced damage output. Some weapons feel awkward at tiny scale.

Manic State build

The Manic State altar doubles your attack speed, making fast weapons absolutely devastating. The cost is reduced defense.

Gear: Daggers or fast swords. The doubled attack speed on these weapons multiplies their DPS dramatically. Avoid heavy weapons — their slow speed does not benefit from doubling.

Playstyle: Aggressive pressure. The doubled attack speed means you should always be attacking. Do not give enemies time to retaliate.

Strengths: Highest raw DPS of any altar build. Devastating against groups of weak enemies.

Weaknesses: Reduced defense. If you get caught in a bad position, you die faster.

Depressed State build

The Depressed State altar reduces your damage and speed but dramatically increases your defense and reduces enemy aggression toward you.

Gear: Heavy armor. The defense bonus from the altar plus heavy armor is extreme. You become nearly untouchable.

Playstyle: Slow and methodical. Do not rush. Let enemies come to you. Block and counter rather than aggressive trading.

Strengths: Near-total survivability. Ideal for extracting with a heavy haul when low on health.

Weaknesses: Killing speed is severely reduced. Only use when survival matters more than gold.

Multi-altar combinations

The most powerful runs combine two altar effects:

Midas + Manic: Convert heavy loot to gold AND attack at doubled speed. The fastest gold generation in the game.

Tiny + Manic: Maximum evasion AND maximum attack speed. Extremely difficult for enemies to touch you while you tear through them.

Midas + Depressed: Maximum gold conversion AND maximum survivability. Best for extracting with an enormous haul when you are injured.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I use the same build for every altar?

No — each altar rewards a different playstyle. A Midas build should not fight; a Manic build should not hide. Adapt your strategy to the altar you find.

What is the best altar combination?

Midas + Manic is the most powerful combination for experienced players who can survive without the Depressed defense. For newer players, Midas + Depressed provides the best extraction safety.

Should I skip an altar if it does not match my current inventory?

It depends. If you have no heavy items, Midas will be weak — look for a different altar. If you are healthy and confident, Manic is almost always good. If you are low on health, Depressed is nearly always valuable.

Can I activate multiple altars in one run?

Yes, you can activate more than one altar effect in a single run. Finding Midas Touch and Manic State on the same run creates one of the most powerful combinations in the game.
