Fell & Sell Controller and Steam Deck

Full gamepad support shipped on 27 August 2026. Here is what that patch actually changed.

Controller Support

Launch morning on 26 August 2026 was keyboard-only. Art Games Studio said the first gamepad pass broke other systems, so they held the mapping for one or two days rather than ship a broken pad. That follow-up is live. The Steam community post titled Gamepad Support + Major Fixes! landed on 27 August 2026. The store now lists Full controller support, DualShock, and DualSense. If an older wiki page still says “wait for the pad,” it is stale.

This page is the search landing for Fell & Sell controller, gamepad, and Steam Deck. Keyboard defaults still live on Controls. Patch chronology lives on Updates. First-hour loop: Getting Started.

What the 27 August patch actually shipped

The studio did not stamp a public 1.0.3 number on this post. Treat the Steam title as the version name. Besides the pad, the same drop fixed several launch-week blockers:

  • Full controller support — play the dungeon and the shop from a gamepad.
  • Steam Deck-friendly — the studio’s words. They also said Deck performance work continues; that is not the same as Valve’s Verified badge.
  • Auto pickup — loot on the floor is less of a click-hunt while you are already overloaded.
  • Full key rebinding — every action can be remapped, not only the WASD cluster from Demo 2.0.
  • Cell room gates — doors that stayed locked after a clear should open once the room is empty.
  • QuickSlot UI — input icons sit above QuickSlots so you can read binds mid-fight.
  • Shadow settings apply immediately. A dedicated SSAO toggle landed. Motion blur is off by default for a sharper picture.
  • Shop and scene fixes — furniture and stock no longer vanish when you return to the cabin or build a new shop.
  • Quest Board — empty-board bug gone; claimed rewards no longer disappear after a load. Details on Quest Board.
  • Saves — less hitching on autosave, fewer save crashes, and no more Unnamed save files on some PCs.

If furniture vanished, the board was blank, or a cell would not open, update before you assume the save is dead.

How to play on a pad

Plug in an Xbox-layout pad, DualShock, or DualSense, then open the in-game options. Rebind from that menu rather than guessing Steam’s default overlay map. The launch delay existed because the first pad implementation collided with shop and dungeon code. The 27 August build is the one meant to keep both halves working.

Shop work on a pad is slower than a mouse for tagging a full table, but it is no longer blocked. Right-click pricing on keyboard is still the fastest retag; on a pad, use the interact prompt on a placed item and the on-screen QuickSlot hints. Combat on a pad is the reason most people asked for this page: block, dash, and look sit on sticks instead of a cramped desk.

Toggle sprint and toggle crouch from Demo 2.0.1 still matter on a pad. Hold-to-sprint on a trigger for a whole Overgrown floor is a recipe for cramped fingers. FOV down to 40 (working since 1.0.2) pairs well with a living-room screen.

Steam Deck, honestly

The 27 August post says Fell & Sell is much more Steam Deck-friendly because a gamepad finally exists. It also says the team will keep optimizing Deck performance. Third-party listings from launch week still called the title Unsupported on Deck — that was before this patch, and Valve’s own Deck category can lag a studio announcement. Practical advice: install the latest build, use the official pad map, drop SSAO and shadows if the handheld thermal-throttles in the Darkest Dungeon, and keep motion blur off (it already is).

Fell & Sell remains a Windows Steam title. There is no Mac or Linux build. Deck play is Proton plus this pad patch, not a native handheld SKU.

Auto pickup and inventory

Auto pickup is in the same patch as the pad because both are quality-of-life for runs where you cannot spare a click. It does not bank loot. Death still deletes the unbanked bag. Pair it with the 1.0.2 overload rule: swapping to a lighter weapon while full drops the extra weapon instead of deleting it. See Dungeon Survival for when to leave.

Keyboard map and FOV: Controls. Floor choices and death: Dungeon Survival. Biome gates: Dungeon Biomes. Campaign order: Walkthrough. Hardware and Deck caveats: System Requirements.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Does Fell & Sell support a controller now?

Yes. Full controller support shipped on 27 August 2026 in the Gamepad Support + Major Fixes post, after a one-to-two-day delay from launch. DualShock and DualSense are listed on the store.

Is Fell & Sell Steam Deck Verified?

The studio calls the post-pad build Steam Deck-friendly and says more handheld optimization is coming. That is not the same as Valve's Verified label. Use the latest build and drop heavy settings if the Deck thermal-throttles.

Do I need a new save for the gamepad patch?

No. The 27 August drop also repaired shop furniture disappearing, empty Quest Boards, and unnamed saves. Update Steam, then load the same file. A brand-new save is still the studio's advice for demo veterans, not a pad requirement.

Where are keyboard binds after the pad patch?

Same options menu, now with full rebinding for every action. QuickSlot icons show the current input above the slots. The keyboard-first layout is documented on the Controls page.
