Fell & Sell Tips and Tricks

Small habits that keep shelves full and corpses rare after the August 2026 launch patches.

Tips and Tricks

These tips are the habits veterans learn after their first empty-shelf morning. They assume the live Steam build after hotfixes 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 and the 27 August Gamepad Support and Major Fixes patch. For full systems, jump to the linked guides — this page is the short list you can apply on the next run.

Tip 1 — Bank before curiosity

Curiosity kills unbanked bags. When you open a new floor type, a new biome, or a boss door, deposit first. The How to Bank Loot guide spells out extract rules. Auto pickup is not a bank.

Tip 2 — Block is free; stamina is not

Shields do not burn durability. Stamina does. Hold the block for telegraphed swings, then punish. Dual wield hits harder and dies faster. Details: Combat.

Tip 3 — Price for flow early, margin later

Early shops need customers more than perfect gold per item. Sit slightly under the panic price, watch reactions, then climb as Comfort and prestige rise. Formula notes: Pricing Guide and How to Sell Items.

Tip 4 — Touch the Quest Board every return

Expedition feats convert to gold and gear only if you walk to the board. Empty board bugs were patched on 27 August — update if yours is blank. Walkthrough: Quest Board.

Tip 5 — Hold Tab; do not tap Tab

Demo 2.0.1 changed inventory to hold-to-open. A tap mid-fight no longer toggles the panel the old way. Rebind and practice: Controls. Pad users: Controller.

Tip 6 — Decorate for combat, not vibes alone

Furniture scrolls place Comfort and sales buffs that carry into the dungeon. A pretty empty room sells less and fights worse. See Decoration Buffs and Furniture.

Tip 7 — Treat altars as loadout swaps

Midas melts junk to gold. Tiny dodges huge hits. Manic and Depressed change pacing. Pick with a purpose, not because the shrine glows. Altars and Altar Builds.

Tip 8 — Forest runs refill the shop without a wipe spiral

The Living Forest sells mats and risk in a different rhythm than the basement. Thunderstorms and goblin raids are part of the supply chain. Forest Foraging.

Tip 9 — Overweight swaps drop, they do not vaporize (1.0.2)

If a weapon hits the floor when you swap light, pick it up before you extract. That hotfix stopped silent deletion — it did not invent infinite pockets.

Tip 10 — Demo furniture needs 1.0.1+

Exclusive demo furniture failed to grant on some 1.0.0 launches. Update, then check inventory even on a new file. Demo vs Full and Updates.

Tip 11 — Two short runs beat one funeral

A medium haul sold twice out-earns a legendary bag that dies once. Build the habit before you build the ego.

Tip 12 — Read biomes before you unlock them

Shallow teaches. Overgrown rushes. Darkest blinds. Boss gates are the fee. Biomes, Bosses, Walkthrough.

A one-run checklist

Before you leave the cabin: potions topped, weapon not junk, shield or kite plan ready, Quest Board checked from the last extract, and a hard bag-value limit written in your head. Inside the dungeon: bank before new floors, block telegraphs, skip optional fights when overweight, and treat altar glows as loadout decisions. Back home: stock tables, nudge prices one notch if Comfort rose, craft only recipes you already unlocked, then dive again. That loop is the whole game — tips only keep you from breaking it. FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the single best tip for new players?

Bank before you explore something new. Unbanked loot is only a wish until you extract alive.

Should I ignore the Quest Board?

No. It pays for work you already did underground. Visit after every successful return.

Is blocking always better than dual wield?

Early, yes for consistency. Dual wield is a deliberate glass-cannon choice once you read enemy tells.

Do these tips change after the gamepad patch?

Combat basics stay. Auto pickup and pad binds change quality of life — update, then relearn Tab-hold and extract discipline.
