How to Bank Loot in Fell & Sell
Unbanked bags die with you. Learn the extract habit that keeps your shop stocked.
Banking is the skill that separates a growing shop from an empty cabin. In Fell & Sell, everything on your person is a promise until you leave the dungeon alive. Die and the promise is cancelled. This page is the complete bank-and-extract guide: how banking works after 1.0.2 and the 27 August gamepad patch, when to take the portal, and how to stop gambling the whole haul for one more shiny drop.
What banked actually means
Loot is unbanked while it sits in your run inventory underground. It becomes banked only when you return to the cabin through a portal or stair exit and the run ends safely. Gold you already deposited from shop sales is safe. Quest Board rewards claimed in town are safe. The bag on your back is not.
Auto pickup from the 27 August 2026 Gamepad Support and Major Fixes patch speeds up floor clears. It does not bank anything. You can vacuum an entire room and still lose it all to a spike trap on the walk back.
After version 1.0.2, swapping to a lighter weapon while overweight drops the extra weapon on the ground instead of deleting it. That saves gear mid-fight; it is still not a bank. Pick the weapon up again only if you can carry it out.
How to extract
- Clear or skip the current room until you control the exits.
- Find the portal or return option when a floor is complete, or backtrack to a known stair if you are mid-floor and overloaded.
- Confirm the leave. You return to the cabin with the haul.
- Stock tables, craft, or stash materials before the next dive.
- Visit the Quest Board — expedition feats convert to gold and gear only if you came home.
Floor clears also offer a classic roguelike fork: go home, or push deeper and draft one of three passive perks. The perk is real power. It is paid for with everything you are still carrying. Read Combat for the teleporter-versus-perk choice, and Dungeon Survival for floor-by-floor risk.
Simple banking rules that print gold
Rule 1 — Bank before a new floor type. First time on floor 3? Bank first. First Overgrown biome after a boss? Bank first. Unknown rooms punish greed.
Rule 2 — Bank when the bag would hurt to lose. If losing this haul means empty shelves tomorrow, leave. Shelves that sell beat legendary fantasies that die in a corridor.
Rule 3 — Bank when health, stamina, or potions are low. A short next room is how most wipe stories start.
Rule 4 — Bank after elite or boss chests. You already got paid. Deposit before the victory lap.
Rule 5 — Bank before altar gambles you do not understand. Altars can win runs or end them. Altar Builds explains Midas Touch, Tiny, and mood states — still bank first if the bag is heavy.
Portal greed versus shop reality
Pushing one more floor feels smart because rarer loot sits deeper. Shop reality is different: a medium haul that reaches the counter funds weapons, Comfort furniture, and the next safe clear. A perfect haul that dies funds nothing. Veterans often run two short extracts instead of one heroic wipe.
Midas Touch altars melt heavy junk into gold underground. That reduces encumbrance and turns dead weight into currency, but gold in the run bag still needs an extract. Details: Altar Builds and Loot and Rarity.
Weight, clutter, and the 1.0.2 drop rule
Full bags force bad decisions. Prioritise equippable upgrades you will wear out, then dense value such as rings, rare mats, and blueprints, then bulk materials only if space remains. Leave low-tier weapons on the floor if you already hold a better seller. Pricing later is covered in How to Sell Items and Pricing Guide.
Biome-aware banking
Shallow is where you learn the habit. Skeleton rooms are the classroom for extract discipline. Overgrown goblin packs punish long routes back to the portal, so bank more often. Darkest has low light and necromancers that spike wipe rate — treat every uncommon drop as bank soon, not one more hallway. Map context: Dungeon Biomes, Bosses, Enemies.
After you bank
Banking is half the loop. Stock the shop, touch Comfort decor for combat buffs, claim the Quest Board, then dive again with empty risk. Income ladders: How to Make Money. Early route: Getting Started. Patch history for auto pickup and inventory fixes: Updates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Does auto pickup bank my loot?
No. Auto pickup only grabs items into your run inventory. Loot is banked when you extract to the cabin alive.
Can I recover items after death?
No. Unbanked haul is gone. There is no corpse run for the full bag. Extract before you cannot afford the loss.
Should I bank every floor?
Safe and valid early. Later, bank when the bag hurts to lose, before new floors, and after elite or boss payouts.
Do floor perks replace banking?
No. Perks buff the next fight; they do not protect the bag. Taking a perk while overloaded is how shops go dark.
