Item Deconstruction Guide

Item Deconstruction arrived in the 4 September 2026 SHOP UPDATE (Ver. 1.4.0) as one of the most requested quality-of-life features for players who craft frequently. Instead of selling a suboptimal craft or leaving it to clutter your storage, you can now deconstruct it to recover a portion of the original crafting materials. This guide covers how the system works, what you get back, and when deconstruction makes more sense than selling or keeping a craft.

How to Deconstruct an Item

The deconstruction option appears in the inventory menu when you select a crafted item. Look for a deconstruct or salvage button in the item action menu. The system is designed to be straightforward: select the item, choose deconstruct, and receive materials back based on what went into the original craft.

Not every item can be deconstructed. The feature applies specifically to crafted items that did not turn out as expected — a weapon with poor rolls, armor that does not fit your build, or a furniture piece you crafted by mistake. Raw dungeon loot and forest materials generally cannot be deconstructed.

What Materials You Recover

Deconstruction returns a percentage of the materials used in the original recipe. The exact return rate is not published in the official patch notes, but the developer described it as a way to “salvage a bad craft” rather than a full refund. This means deconstruction is best used as a recovery mechanism for expensive recipes where a failed craft would otherwise represent a total loss.

Common scenarios where deconstruction helps:

  • A weapon craft that rolled poor stats — deconstruct to get back alloy or components for the next attempt
  • Armor that does not match your current build — recover the leather and metal for something you will actually use
  • Accidentally crafting the wrong furniture variant — get materials back instead of leaving it taking up storage space

Deconstruction vs Selling

Before deconstructing, compare the material recovery to what the item would sell for. In some cases, a well-rolled item that does not fit your current build still sells for enough gold to buy the materials you need for a replacement craft. Deconstruction is most valuable when:

  • The craft used expensive rare materials that would cost more to re-purchase than the item sells for
  • You need the exact same materials to try again rather than gold to buy alternatives
  • Storage is full and the item has no practical use

A poor roll on a cheap recipe might sell for more than the materials are worth. A high-end weapon craft that missed its desired stats might be worth more in recovered starmetal and cores than its sale price.

Relationship to Other Systems

Deconstruction works alongside the Expanded Item UI from the same patch. The improved hover information helps you decide whether a craft is worth keeping or deconstructing by showing clearer stat breakdowns before you commit to the recipe.

The pricing logic overhaul also matters here. With base prices now set first and shop bonuses calculating on top, a crafted item’s visible base value helps you judge whether selling or deconstructing makes more financial sense.

Deconstruction also connects to the larger shop properties in the SHOP UPDATE. More display space means more furniture crafting, which means more opportunities for crafts that do not make the cut and need to be salvaged.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What items can be deconstructed?

Crafted items that did not turn out as expected — weapons, armor, or furniture with poor rolls or wrong stats. Raw dungeon loot and forest materials generally cannot be deconstructed.

How many materials do I get back?

Deconstruction returns a percentage of the original crafting materials, not a full refund. The exact rate is not publicly documented. It is described as a way to salvage a bad craft rather than recover everything.

Should I deconstruct or sell a bad craft?

Compare the sale value to the cost of re-acquiring the materials. Deconstruction is better for expensive rare materials where you need the exact same inputs to try again. Selling may be better for cheaper recipes where you can repurchase materials with the gold earned.

Can I deconstruct items in storage?

Deconstruction is typically done from inventory. Move the item to your inventory first if it is stored in a storage chest, then access the deconstruction option from the item action menu.

Does deconstruction work on quest items or unique drops?

No. Deconstruction applies to crafted items only. Quest items, unique dungeon drops, and non-craftable equipment cannot be deconstructed.

When did Item Deconstruction ship?

Item Deconstruction arrived in the 4 September 2026 SHOP UPDATE (Ver. 1.4.0), the first major milestone on the official roadmap.
